Can't - photo glitch this weekend.  Photobucket is fine if you have adbloc installed.

We switched from a freeform pond to a rectangular one last year, as we found it too difficult to hide the irregular edges. Still figuring out how to soften the hard frame, using pots and planting.

KeenonGreen - I wouldn't soften your formal edges too much.  They're half teh attraction.  It's lovely and you clearly have a good range of plants in there.

Lyn - that is very pretty.  PF - I love your beach.  We'll be doing one of those when the water level goes down.

All very inspiring.  Love the pebbles Pansyface.  We may steal that idea.

My pond is not as amazing as some pictures I have seen on this thread. I hasten to add that my pond is over 40 years old and is still going strong. We only keep goldfish in it, with the birds using the fountain as their own personal shower which is fantastic to see.

Our friendly builder helped with the digging

We grassed the edges and put in some oxygenators and marginal plants

and the wildlife moved in almost immediately!

Thanks for the photos, trust me to post this thread when the site was suffering glitches. Some lovely looking ponds here.

Have they helped?  How big is yours going to be and formal or informal?

    See original post

Yes, they have definitely helped, thank you. I intend my pond to be natural looking, perhaps like Lyns lovely pond. Sadly I can't fit a pond the size of yours unless I lift a few fence panels when the neighbours aren't looking image
