Orange tree leaves dying/browning
Hey guys, I was given a orange tree 6 months ago a friend of mine planted from seed. Its about 8 years old, it was given to me in rough shape and I so far managed to keep it alive and get a bit of new growth.
Right now its in front of a window with only about 2 hours of good direct light per day, i have a led grow bulb a few feet above it for more lighting. I been getting a lot of mixed info on orange trees and am new to citrus. it was transplanted about a year ago, in a pot that doesnt drain out the bottom. The past month i noticed lots of leaves are browning, tons of new growth everywhere but nothing really growing... I do mist it 3 ish times a week. Any tips? any info is appreciated.

it looks alright from far but when look closer almost half the leaves are browning.
It needs to be in a pot which drains freely, otherwise the roots will rot.

ah i see, similar but different leaves... mine arnt yellowing or veiny like that...
thanks i will drill some holes and add a saucer. do you let the soil dryout before rewater? when watering should it be soaked or moist
When I grew citrus I let the compost dry out on the surface before watering again ... stick your finger in up to the first joint and if it's dry down there then it needs water. Give it enough water for the compost to be nicely moist all the way through and then let it drain away.
I tried to use rainwater rather than tapwater ... some people say it's not vital but I had lots of rainwater butts so we usually had plenty of rainwater.

ok right on, been watering in that way except the bottom being able to drain out. how about fertilizer? slow release on top ok? how often.. one other thing is lighting, is direct light bad? that led grow bulb i have on top is meant for plants, has all the spectrums and only 15w, still wondering if it is hurting it since its direct?
I would use specialist citrus fertiliser and then use it as directed on the pack.
Just a thought, did you use compost formulated for citrus plants?
I've never used grow lights so I'm afraid we'll have to leave that up to the others .........
