Can someone let me know what these are?
Hi, I have three clumps and I'm not sure what they are. One very large clump which I am 99% sure is pampas grass - I've attached two photos of this. If it is, I will cut it right down so it plumes this year!
The second two clumps are smaller and I had wondered if they were pampas grass as well? If not, can someone tell me what they are and what I need to do with them if anything? Three photos attached of these.
Thank you!
Sorry photos don't seem to have uploaded :-/

should be fixed shortly

What about this??

The second 2 look like Carex pendula.
Brilliant! That's it :-) Thank you! Should I be doing something with it? Cutting it right down like the pampas grass or leaving it?
Are the first two pampas grass?
Thank you!
Imo, it's ghastly stuff...pops up everywhere and the large plants are the devil to get out of the ground. Personally I would try to get rid of it.
Not sure about the first plants, but you know what they say about people with Pampas Grass in their gadens?
The two clumps of Carex Pendula look nice where they are so I might just leave those two clumps and check they don't spread!! Thankfully they're not pampas grass as they are either side of at the front of the house
!!
Can anyone confirm that the first two are photos of Pampas grass? If it is, how far down should I cut it and when will it start to shoot up again?
Thanks for the replies
re the ?pampas. I have enlarged the one with the flower and it looks like a Miscanthus.
In the sticks near Peterborough
I thought Miscanthus too, don't know which one. You could have a look on Knoll Gardens website and see if you can find a match
As for the Carex, it will spread - by runners, (that positively gallop, especially if the ground is damp!) and by seed, and you will find it popping up everywhere. If you like the look of it, you could find another grass that looks similar but will be better behaved
.
Thanks - I've looked that up and the one plume that we had this year looks different to what you get at the end of the Miscanthus. We don't think this has been cut back in about 3 or 4 years, hence the lack of plumes! The stems are sharp and the tall stalks quite thick (inch).
I think I'll cut it right down and see what comes up this year! How low should I cut it?
