I don't know if others saw the news that Carol Klein has been awarded the VMH by the RHS.
    Congratulations to her.

I have been to Bodnant a few years ago, in the summer. Beautiful setting. I loved how colourful that winter garden was, very inspirational. Congratulations to Carol Klein !
Afraid most of the rest of the programme passed me by.

A friend lived for many years at Bodnant ... she was the cook to the Aberconway family and her husband also worked for the family ... although the gardens no longer belonged to the family they and their staff were able to use them ... she assures me it was absolutely idyllic  B)

  • I like the shots of the dogs. I have a dog myself, but I don't think they're particularly intrusive on Gardener's World. I think they're just trying to create the image of a normal bloke pottering round the garden with his dogs in tow. They don't seem to distract from the actual gardening.

That said I'm not a massive fan of the segments with Carol Klein. She tends to always focus on things that I'm not interested in. I've never had the space for flowers or trees, so 90% of what interests me is vegetable gardening. I like anything about small spaces, potting or creating arrangements but it's easy to forget that I'm not the intended audience for all of it. As soon as someone starts cutting back a tree I get a bit bored but I'm sure I wont when I have a tree to cut back.

I'm thrilled for Carol Klein and her VMH.  Well deserved.  As for not liking her segments on the show, why ever not?  If you're aiming one day to have trees you can cut there will surely be room for flowers too, even if only the edible kind.  She manages to get across a great deal of info on botany, growing needs and plant associations in a very short space of time.  Brilliant.

I can very well do without Joe Swift and can't now remember what Monty got up to but the Bodnant visit was memorable.
