Now that it's a new year I am starting a new thread for our garden photos. I had a look and couldn't find that anyone else has done one.

Things are just starting to move in my garden.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Lovely BL.

How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Looks like a goldfinch, B3.  image

A lovely foretaste of Spring, Lizzie - made me smile!  Thank you.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It may be grey and dreary January but I found all this magic going on in the garden about 10 days ago... The roses are a bit of a bonus as I wasn't expecting to see them at this time of year... image

That's lovely, Humblebee, my roses are asleep.

What a beautiful bird photo that is.

Mostly still snowdrops here, and, of course, my daphne....my favourite winter plant

  • Which Daphne is that, Chicky?  I can almost smell it from here...

I lost my D.mezereum last spring.  Don't think they live very long.  image

  • How old was it Liri?  Mine must be about 25 years old and still looks healthy...

I know they don't like root disturbance and mine doesn't get any of that, as it is growing on the edge of the drive. Think it may like the limestone chippings too, and it gets full sun, when there is any.

I don't do anything to it, never feed it, except sometimes catch it with the car as I reverse (image), so that one branch is tied up with baler twine until it heals over!

That branch still has flower buds, waiting for some sun, but they won't be opening today, it's been snowing all morning!

Mine is a jaqueline postil Liri - inherited, so at least 11 years old, but probably more.  It flowers, and more importantly pumps out the most incredible fragrance, from Christmas til March.  Bcupdays - ours is also by the driveway - so we get to enjoy it everyday image

Just found these too - all my other hellebores are still in bud
