Had to go to the allotment to do Birdwatch as all the feeders are there. I have never seen so many birds there at any one time before. It was almost as though they all wanted to be in on the act.
Blackbird x 2 Blue tit x 2 Chaffinch x 2 Goldfinch x 4 Sparrow x 4 Starling x 4 (come out of hiding as haven't been seen recently) Greenfinch x 1 Raven x 1 Crow x 1
They move so quickly to fight their way on to the feeders it was like a fast forward video.
Missing Wood Pigeon and Magpie. Maybe others I haven't been there to see. Who knows.
After sitting still for 1 hour thought I would never get warm again. So different when you are working.
Gardeninggirl - If it was a competition as to who saw the most birds in one hour I think you would win by a mile! Don't know how you kept a track of them all. You must have a very bird friendly garden. Glad you enjoyed it.
I’ve just got a few new feeders which has helped, the finches love the niger seed and sunflower hearts, I’ve definately seen many more by using these two foods! And I have 2 cats who luckily can’t get to the bird buffet! The birds all queue up in the trees waiting to get on the feeder. The siskins are the most brave... goldfinches are most flighty! My chickens stand under the feeder waiting for scraps.
I live in a golf course surrounded by woodland So it makes for a lot of wildlife...
Newgardeninggirl - Sounds a lovely place where you live. I also introduced Nyger seed and sunflower hearts and as you say the finches can't get enough of it. My cat is a house cat but on the allotment I have a local cat who thinks he owns it but doesn't seem interested in the birds fortunately. He just likes to sleep in the sun if it's out. When I was doing the Birdwatch the birds disappeared for a minute or two and I noticed the cat was doing the rounds and then went home again so fortunately they all came back. Always fancied having chickens....
I got the usuall in normal numbers but in addition to the norm i have had a male Blackcap overwintering in my and my neighbours gardens. I get Sparrowhawk everyday but not durring the hour i had this year.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but the font in the response box is much smaller than when it appears on screen. Pansy has sight problems and simply cannot see what she is typing!
Thanks Buttercup, and my apologies to Pansy. I had noticed the different sizes, naturally, and I've often wondered what the point of that is. Surely this is something that could be fixed, either on this site, or perhaps someone well above my pay-grade could suggest a fix on one's own PC? It seems like one of those things that ought by now to have been thought about for sight-impaired users. It actually makes me despair that such an obvious barrier can't be sorted out when computers can do all sorts of other clever but often useless tricks.

Hi Pansy,
Do you think you could go back to using lower case letters. It's a devil to read in capitals!
No Joe, she can't.
