    Folks,

    Really grateful for all your informed replies. My Dad is fair tickled too!

    I should say he lives in Haddington, East Lothian. It flowers profusely during the summer/autumn.

    I am unaware of scent but will ask. I'd like to buy it so any ideas on where would be welcome too.

    It's on my Crocus wihlist for his year. A friend has a blue variety and covered in bees in the summer

    The Alpine Garden Society say that many cultivated Hebes are  wrongly named . Seeing and reading about that plant (or both) on Dubloons thread  I think "does it really matter"?image .

    Cherish it and enjoy growing it ; sod the botanical nomenclature image !

    One day in the future that plant may hold pleasant memories  .

    Absolutely Paul, and the banter on this thread will be part of that happy memory. Thanks guys, much appreciated.

    Hi Dubloon,

    Could you ask your dad about the distinctive smell of that plant just to make sure it's an alpine mint bush?

    @Paul B3 "[...] sod the botanical nomenclature"

    As a great fan of all things botanical I respectfully beg to disagree with this anathema.image

    I always try to use the proper botanical names , but with a small element of doubt as to its true ID , I didn't think it mattered unduly .

    Apologies to the pedantic ones amongst you all ; especially Papi Jo !!image
