OOh, bit posh round Larch Farm. Thats what it was called when one of my mums neighbours turned down an acre building plot at half a crown a square yard. "Who wants to live out there, Miles away from the shopping".
As far as I'm aware, even when the mother retains her paternal surname, the children take their father's surname. Prince Philip comes from the deposed royal house of Greece, in fact he was born on the island of Corfu, and as that house is part of the royal house of Denmark, his name is Glucksburg, not Battenberg or Mountbatten, as is often claimed to be.
Just to put 'the cat amongst the pidgeons' so to speak ; Weigela , a popular garden shrub , named after Christian Ehrenfried von Weigel should be pronounced VEE-GEL-A !
Maybe you find that just as annoying as your pathetic post on nee-fof-ee-a

Hated every minute of it ; was only a temporary stop en route to Lincolnshire . Horrible bungalow opposite Little John pub .
PS Was one of the most soul-less communities I've ever had the misfortune to encounter . Your Mums neighbour probably did the right thing !

That's an interesting point, Pansyface.

Unless of course he changed it. It's a free country and, I suppose, you can be a Mountbatten or a Windsor if you so desire!
It really bugs me when people say, "Pronounciation".
Jus' sayin' (bet it bugs some people when other people say, "Jus' sayin'").
Oh, who gives a ph!

Sorry, just bugged myself by not putting a question mark on the end of that question.
Does it bother anyone when I use the description, "bug" to mean something that's annoying?
Gridling ;

Should dahlia be pronounce Dal i a, with Dal rhyming with pal and not with day? after Anders Dahl?
Dare we open the can of worms that is the pronunciation of Clematis?
