Ma never understood vodka  ... After all, it was made from potatoes and looked like water how could it be alcoholic???

My son brought some of 'the good stuff' back from a trip to his Russian in-laws for his grandpa and his grandma wanted to try some,  then she went out to the garden to get the washing in ... And wasn't seen again for quite a while ... Eventually she was found ... On the sun lounger in the garden shed ... Snoring!!!

She had a similar theory about the calvados she was introduced to at my cousins wedding image

Dove , the Paddies make their poteen from spuds as your ma rightly points out ,the best Russian samogon (literally self distill) from bread . Russian weddings are a thing to behold .....they say it has been a success if there were no fights and nobody fell asleep in their salad . We will have 13 guests staying with us to celebrate New Year and there will be stiff competition as to who brings the best samogon ......thank god I did well in chemistry image

Well! You’re all chirpy this morning.

After I said hello to Chicky, I opened the October Foxtel Program which arrived this morning and grabbed the pink marker pen and spent the next hour or so marking things of interest for the whole month. Talk about boring!

There are absolutely no “gardeners world” shows ,but I did find Alan with a show called “Masterpiece with Alan Titchmarsh” visiting the most stunning homes in Britain and “Inside the Tube: Going Underground”, and a few other shows, but nothing terribly exciting. image

I have no idea DL.  Previous owners were a fireman who scarpered suddenly about 4 years ago leaving child-minder wife and 3 kids.   I assume she chose the colours and where to put the alphabet stickers - all gone now but covering those paint colours is going to be a real chore.

No gardening progs Pat?  In spring?   Shameful!

What are you sowing?   I'm wondering about getting a head start on seedlings now so they can benefit form, I hope, increased rainfall this autumn to get their roots down deep so they can cope with any more drought or excess heat next spring and summer.

First to find some decent seed compost tho.

I sow a lot of hardy annuals in the autumn, have to sow in g/h, otherwise pigeons eat them all.

Also sow a fair few perennials, as they seem to do better with a winter chill.
