It's often  due to them becoming dry at the end of the previous season summer/ autumn.

Thanks for this. Will it recover next year?

keep them watered and fed with liquid tomato food for the rest of the season and they should be fine.

    Thank you
  • Hi my 2 giant evergreen agapanthus’s have become very water logged. I’ve cut back the leaves but does anyone know or think they’ll be ok come the summer? Many thanks
  • @rachydunnyt1fxy0vF In the UK the evergreen forms should spend winter underglass as they are not hardy.
Perhaps they have been OK outside if you live in south for the past few winters. This year we had wet followed by cold weather. I am not sure they will have survived. Are they in the ground or has your pot become waterlogged. Welcome!

I had a conversation a few months ago, as an agapanthus virgin.. the general consensus of the agapanthus experts here was that the restricted roots thing isn't really true. I've got two in different soils and the snow last month has made them both as sorry looking. I hope I'll see new shoots at some point too.

@rachydunnyt1fxy0vF what type of soil have you got - could you dig around them and put some grit in for drainage?
  • They do like some restriction to their roots, however that doesn't mean they are happy with no compost at all when grown in a pot which can happen if they are not checked annually.

Judging by the amount of views this post has had already, it would appear half the country has got the same problem!
  • @Slow-worm  I think we need to start a top ten of posibble winter casualties. Cordyline, Evergreen Agapanthus, Hebe I do think the list may be longer sadly.
