can-anyone-identify-my-plant/tree
im new to this site and have a plant which iv not seen in anyones garden. i bought an unusual plant 7inchs high at a plant sale. it grew a foot a year to reach 10 foot then threw out its first flower. a single sten with a mass of white flowers much similer to elderlower but x by 10. the main straight stem trunk has spikes on. the leave come off the main stem. its a stem with fern like leaves matching either side. about 7-10 leaves down the stem each side. all the leaves drop for the winter just to leave a stick like trunk in the ground. can anyone help with the name of this unusual plant. it looks quite exotic. i tried to dig up the plant when i moved because i wanted to take with me but found it was too established. i cut through a root when doing this. the plant is fine and a in the spring there was about 20 shot up in my lawn from the broken off root. i was so pleased i dug them all out and now have 20 plants but stiil dont know what they are.
look forward to hearing from anyone that knows

HI Gill, can you post a picture?
Hello Gill. 20 plants from one root sounds both impressive and very slightly worrying. A plant that is so ready to reproduce itself may end up as a bit of a thug. Be careful who you give its offspring to or you may lose friends.
Only a guess. Try googling Aralia elata
In the sticks near Peterborough
iv tried to post a picture but was unable as not done it before can you give me instructions on how to do this? the plant only gave off new plants because i had cut the root in half otherwise it would not off given off any.
Gill, click on the tree icon above where you are writing, follow instructions. I can do this from pc and ipad but not from my phone, so see what works for you.
iv looked up aralia elata, nice try thanks but not my plant the leave are much slimmer and longer. when tree is 10 foot has a span of a meter either side of trunk.
has it worked? it wouldnt do anything when i went onto computer.
guess not. i can email the picture to someone if im allowed to do this.?
It sounds a bit like a hogweed. Any chance it could be that gill?
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Are the roots bendy , I wondered if it was a "staggs horn" tree/ shrub ?
iv tried to change my profile picture to the plant in question. it hasnt happened unless it takes a while to do this? no not hogweed. its about 10 foot and exotic looking. not stag horn tree. the centre trunk grows straight up like a straight stick.
