Watermelons in NE Scotland!

im a keen chilli grower in NE scotland and this year, I've successfully grown watermelon in an unheatted greenhouse. anyone this far north grown them before?image

    Marvellous!  I am also growing one plant but no fruits showing.  Last year I got 2 water melons as big as my fist.  I might have bought 2 big ones from the supermarket with the cost of compost used.

    Do share your tips, thanks in advance,

  • Hi hoeglory, interested to know where you are.  i think the best tip is to allow the vine to grow without pinching.  I will sometimes remove unnecessary flowers and growth buds once fruit has set. You can be selective with the flowers, this helps control where your fruit forms.  I grow them vertically too but thats just to save space.

  • yea there's two round the watermelon, one as a backup.....it's just shy of a football size now. And ripening well
