How tall is the second one? I have chicory flowering at the moment that looks similar to that. The flowers open in the morning but shut up at night. They are about 5 ft tall.

  • I often find religion comforting, and some fairy tales too (but not those of the brothers Grimm).

I have just watched the Pale Blue Dot. I agree, Павел (!!), it's amazing.

  • Hi Fidget, I just went out and cut a bit of the plant to look at the flowers; they're not closed.  It's quite tall but at the moment I'm not able to measure it, much too dark.

Talking about flowers that close up, I have some morning glories and that's their party trick.  Come midday, they curl up and go to sleep!

This is completely off-topic but I tell the story at every opportunity !!

I wont quote my surname but I blame my Russian Dad for it !  It's Russian but sounds Polish because Dad lived in the time and place that switched between Poland and Russia on a regular basis.

To add insult to injury, when he came to England and had to transcribe his name from Cyrillic, he had the help of a Hungarian man.  Whenever I'm abroad I check local phone directories but have never found anyone with the same name !

Dimwit is right, I think it is Hyssopus Officinalis. It is a really forgiving plant, and can tolerate partial shade. Probably why you saw if surving under the weight of other plants.

  • Well, ERICS MUM, how does it feel to be unique!

  • Yes, Borderline, I think she is.
