  • I must add that I am talking about nests - we have had less than a dozen nests here and in Sark, but that potentially means an awful lot of Asian hornets making their home here, mostly from Normandy and Brittany.

Unfortunately, they are here too, can’t get near my fig tree for them feasting on the burst fruit. Two hedgehogs have been feasting on the fallen fruit in the evenings, though, which is a far cheerier sight.

  •  I came across this on the internet today: a longhorn beetle (Necydalis mellita) doing a decent impression of a ichneumonid wasp.

Hi everyone! Spring has arrived, with the first peacock butterfly of the season spotted in my garden this morning. Basking in the sun amidst the dead foliage of Lady's mantle.

Lovely, Papi Jo. I saw my first peacock a few days ago and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my favourites, the scarce swallowtails

Insect of the day spotted in my rose-tree 'flower carpet Yellow Sunshine': Harmonia axyridis aka the harlequin, multicolored Asian ladybeetle.

  • Two different ladybugs and an ant...
Only saw one bumblebee today. Where are they all? There used to be so many in the previous years 🙁

Still on the new foliage of my rose-tree 'flower carpet Yellow Sunshine': another specimen of Harmonia axyridis in a different disguise.
