willow blight

Hi all, bought three fancy willows from RHS Catsworth and all seem to have willow blight. I have looked it up and found a suggestion it may have been dormant since the winter (before I bought it).

I'm going to email the company but would like your opinion first, have I done something wrong? Could it have been there when I bought it? or is it just one of those things?

Thank you

I'm no expert on such matters, but doesn't look like blight of any sort to me.....image

Oh thanks Pete8, when I googled willow problems that's what it looked like. Any ideas?

There's a lot of tightly packed willow bound round with more willow.. That would need a big pot if it's not in soil and a lot of water. I'd look there first

As far as I know if a plant has blight or a related disease you'll see obvious black 'bruises' on some of the affected stems - do you seen anything like that?
The only blight I come across is tomato blight (rarely I'm pleased to say).

The only thing it looks like to me is that the leaves have been wet then got scorched by strong sunshine, but it does look a bit random for that.

Also - do re-read the 1st few words of my 1st post..

Thanks Nut, it has been in the ground for a couple of weeks now. At first I thought it was stress of planting.

Thanks Pete, I don't think it's sun as keeps on coming regardless of sun or not. Ive looked at the stems, the upper ones with leaves are fine. The lowers mainly ok but just a couple of round spots of black. I'll post a photo separately. (I note you aren't an expert but appreciate experience and ideas!).

The brown patches on the stem (toward the top right of your photo) maybe an indication of some infection, possibly blight, but I don't know.
I would guess that if you contact RHS Chatsworth and refer them to this thread, I think you'll get a good outcome.
I can also see tiny brown raised spots on the stems. If you remove the brown cap and see cotton-wool underneath that's an indication of scale insect, but I don't think it would cause your leaf problem

Or maybe someone with more willow experience than me can help
