I've lived in the English countryside almost all of my life amongst hedgerows full of dog roses ... I've never come across one Rosa canina with a strong scent.  It's described here as having a 'faint scent'.

Sometimes Rosa rugosa is mistaken for Rosa canina ... rugosa has single flowers and usually has a strong perfume.

Agree that it is 'American Pillar'.  I had one, didn't like it and dug it out years ago.....much too bright for my taste.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

image  brains and other bits too being fried here Nanny Beach ... ordinarily I'd be at the beach or down by the river or on the Broads in this weather but as I can't get about due to this flipping broken foot I'm indoors with all the doors and windows open and the blinds set to reflect the sun.

Hope you're able to get to get some sea air image

sometimes you get a sea breeze, but that can lead you into a false sense of security, that it is cooler than it actually is.  My Hubbys late Grandfather was major of Gt Yarmouth in the 80d, dont know if you are near there t all, he lived in Winterton.

I know Winterton ..... and Gt Yarmouth ......... we're about 25 miles from there.  Family are further down the coast in the Southwold, Aldeburgh area ...... it's a family saying that it's always 10 degrees cooler to the east of the A12 image
