  • In Norfolk here early on ghe bumblebee s were the culprit s making little holes behind the base of the flower and getting out the nector with out doing any pollination.   I had no beans so started to use a little paint brush from flower to flower.  Now the beans are coming thick and fast but now I have noticed the honey bee is also taking the nector from the back.   They both know the trick. I advise doing the job yourself to be sure

  • Make sure the 'little black beetle' isn't ladybird lavae which are black and very beetle like in appearance. L/bird lavae are very beneficial as they feed voraciously on aphids - particularly on black fly which have amassed to plague like proportions here in Bristol this year.
