What are these insects please?

ElsiElsi Posts: 10

Can anyone please tell me what these little bugs are on my Brussel sprouts? They covered them and make them smell unpleasant so I've taken them all out. And any idea how to protect against these little terrors without using nasty chemicals?

All help would be appreciated, I'm a rookie grower! image

This is massively helpful, thank you so much! I can't believe that they are aphids, I thought aphids were small delicate looking flies, not these monsters! Very useful tip on the washing up liquid, thanks again ???

Thank you scroggin, I already have done as there were so many aphids and the plant looked really unhealthy.

So do you only get one harvest from sprouts? I thought they may keep producing a harvest like my purple sprouting broccoli?

I take the centre of the top of the brussels sprout plant and use it like spring greens or cabbage, before picking the sprouts as I need them through the winter.

Taking the top out removes the growing tip and prevents the plants from running to flower and seed.

When all you have left is the bare stalk that's it ... all over.
