Poppy ID please
in Plants
Does anyone have any idea what type of poppy this could be? I know it may not have a name. They were sprouting all over my garden, and borders, so I pulled most of them up, before I realised how pretty they were going to be. I'd like to find/buy some similar ones for next year. I'm guessing that I can collect the seed heads when they're done and take the seeds.
Excuse the bugs... any idea what these are? They are a nuisance.

Looks like a paeony poppy.
Papaver somniferum, aka Opium Poppy. You don't need to collect seed, just let it seed itself, the biggest and best plants come that way
In the sticks near Peterborough
Looks like a pom pom Opium Poppy variety.
When the seeds heads have turned brown and going crispy is a good time to snip them off, open them up and collect the seeds inside.
The bugs are Pollen Beetles and one of the 'good guys'... great polinators and do absolutely no harm to your plants whatsoever so don't worry about them. They've been around a lot longer than bees and love bright colours as have symbiotic relationships with many flowering plants that bees aren't evolved to pollenate.

Perfect, thank you for the responses. Seen some lovely lilac ones online that I like!
