Is it a weed?!

Hello

Can anyone identify this mystery plant growing in my border, please? It looks like a weed to me but there are so many of them in a large, deliberate-looking clump that I can't help wondering if they're a garden plant. I have been waiting to see what they turn out like but I am getting sick of waiting for the flower to emerge! They're up to 5 feet tall now. They're only very slightly prickly.

Thank you!

could be an echinops, some are quite tall. Don't get fed up with waiting for plants to flower, it's only June, you'll want something for later in the summer

Thanks - I think you are right! Quite happy to wait for garden plants to flower - what I dislike is carefully cultivating something which turns out to be a disappointment (aka a weed) when it eventually flowers! Especially something so big and invasive. But echinops will certainly be worth cultivating! This is my first year with this garden - the planting is excellent but very complex and multilayered - very hard to be sure what's an invader and what's "meant to be there" until I've seen a whole season through!

    Thanks again!

Looks a really nice plant - could you post a photo when the flowers open.

Now I would say that it was Sow thistle, Sonchus arvensis. But as said wait until it flowers before deciding.
