Heaven Scent .....Smell from Hell
Hello everybody.
While out in the garden on Sunday working near a rose bush I noticed the scent of this particular rose . so I decided to choose my favourite scent of the flowers in my garden , and this is the conclusion I came to . My favourite with out a doubt is the Rose called ' Brother Cadfael ' , it has a gloriously gentle sweet perfume . whenever I pass it I have to put my face in the flowers and take in the gorgeous aroma . I also adore the smell of the honeysuckle especially in the evening as it drifts in from the garden .
On the flip side of that the one smell I cannot abide is that of Cytisus , I did have one in my garden but had to dig it out because of the awful smell , it smelt like a bag of dirty damp washing .
So over to you now folks to share the best and worst of your garden plants.
Posts
Best: Wisteria, smells like vanilla sherbet to me.
Worst: Perhaps Elder - the tree type - because I made Elderberry red wine once and can re-taste it every time I smell it!
I love the smell of roses. Any old rose. I hate them because they hate me and rip lumps out of me but my garden's previous keeper was a big BIG fan. I haven't the heart to dig them out because when they flower they are beautiful.
I have a purple lupin and if all lupins smelled like that I'd burn them. I was seriously tempted to dig it out but it's huge and gives a great display. The pink and yellow ones smell lovely.
I love the smell of salvia Hotlips leaves, tomato leaves and pelargonium leaves.
The one garden honk that still gives me nightmares is the smell of the nettle feed that I made a few years ago! It was VILE!! Never again, no matter how good it is for the garden!
I'm currently sat in between two window boxes of night scented stocks.
intoxicating perfume!
Like you all I love the smell of roses, any! Sweet peas also, daffodils, hyacinth.... So many!
Hate ceanothus!!!!
I have a massive (some may say overgrown!) Lavender just outside my patio doors so I have a lovely waft everytime I walk past it - so that is my 'favourite'. I also adore jasmine, thymes and scented pelargoniums. I am also fond of tomato plants - but mainly because they conjure memories of my Grandparents. I am also fond of plain old cut grass or fir tree trimmings - that fresh smell!
My favourite flowers are Daffodils but even so, some varieties smell pretty awful I find.
Love curry plant scent - dislike marguerites scent x
I love the usual flower smells - roses, Jasmine etc..
I can't bear the foul- smelling cistus.
But I love the smell of privet. I was an inner city child and privet was pretty much the only cultivated plant.
It reminds me of never ending school holidays .
I know most of you hate it but scent is a very powerful memory trigger.

Few favourites, jasmine, honeysuckle, carnations, wallflowers, hyacinth.
Hate the smell of geraniums and tomato plants.
Love the smell of roses, sweetpeas, jasmine, nicotina, pinks, cut grass.....especially after the rain. Lilies, honeysuckle, mint, tomato plants and a shrub in my neighbours garden, but have no clue what it's called! And probably loads more
Can't think of a smell I hate, except the smell of vanilla candles lol

P.S. Haven't noticed the smell of hollies.......might go and smell mine in a mo......the plant that is not my lips
.......which is actually not that easy

That was meant to be Hotlips! Not hollies
