please help me to identify my old rose

My dear gardeners world members , i am in a need of a big favour to find out the name of my old beautiful rose, that my beloved father( long dead now) bought around 30 years ago.

i will try to post good quality pictures and hope to find someone to help me, i will be thankful for life.

1. the rose is about 4 metres high, intense red, very fragrant, big to huge flowers, which repeat through the summer, the buds are long , slim , the color is intense red when fresh, later in the hot midday sun turns to dark blue, to black on the end of the petals, dark fuchsia as well , inside has many intense yellow stamen , the leaflet is dark green not that healthy, the thorns are big and strong . imageimagethat is a small introduction and now the pictures:

i would love to know what rose it is so i can know how to prune it right. The rose itself has been neglected for some time. i wish she would bloom more .

thank you very much ,

I have been having a look for your rose and the closest I can find is Rosa Guinee. A hybrid tea climber raised by Mallerin in 1938. The only thing I could not find was how thorny it is.Hope this helps.image

I wonder if it is a Kordes Rose called Symphathie. I have one climbing by the front door and it must be all of 30 years old. Peter Beale Roses sell them.

  • Thank you so much to all of you.

Dear Fritillary, the rose has a lot of thorns, quite big and strong. You can see it very well on the first picture above.

I do not think it is a Rosa Sympathie because by coincidence a planted a young Sympathie in my garden three days ago. It looks like this:

in the pictures  the color may not seem to be of a big difference, but in reality they have very different kind of red. So I believe it is a Rosa Guinee .

Thank you so much to all of you. So kind of you. I hope I can be of help some day.
