Clematis flower disease - help!

I have just noticed that the flowers of my Montana Clematis have green "galls" or pods on them, any idea what this might be - should I cut off the flowers???  I have searched google but there doesn't seem to be too many pests that attack the flowers themselves.  I could take photos if needed.  Many thanks.

    Yes please.  Photos.  Load them using the camera icon.  If it fails, re-size to make them smaller.
