Make a thick but flexible band of newspaper ,(roll up 4-5 sheets), thread around the plants and use this to carefully pull them from their pots . The Aloe should not be a problem ; the cactus slightly resembles a cristate form of Lemaireocereus pruinosus grafted onto a suitable stock .

I use a 70/30 ratio mix of granite chippings and a good quality compost ; perfect drainage with moisture retention is essential . If you have access to a greenhouse , they would thrive during the summer months; rainwater is much preferable to tap-water . They require a pH of around 5.5 (slightly acidic) and plenty of sunshine and fresh air during their growing period . Overwinter almost completely dry from October to early April in a frost-free but bright room (but away from radiators) !

Good luck , and I hope this helps .
