Jew's/Judas Ear Fungi

One of my elder trees has a fungi growing,  Looking online it looks like Jews ear. However I cannot find any info as to whether it is harmful or should be/how to treat or if it will spread to other trees. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Fungi are part of the breaking down of dead wood, this fungus and elder are often see together. The fungus is the result, rather than the cause, of dead and dying wood. Fungal spores are always in the air and will find a home where a tree/shrub is dying
