Sycamore

Evening all.

I have a youngish sycamore in the garden its about 12 inch diameter. I have noticed over recent years that its becoming a bit sparse in terms of foliage and some of the branches are dead or dying.

I climbed up there today and cut out much of the dead stuff to try to recover it but noticed that some of the thicker branches when cut have evidence of rot in the center of the branch.

Question is what can i do to recover it? We really want to try to save it, and i wondered if a cut similar to pollard might be my best solution? Will this help, is it my only chance?

All advice gratefully received.
