Privet hedge by post

Hi can anyone tell me if they have ever purchased privet hedge online and if so where from and how much ?

There are some on eBay 60-80cm 2l pots 5 for £26 with postage or 5 30cm in 9cm pots for £9. I'm not sure if these would be any good or where else to buy from, I did ask in my local garden centre but they didn't sell it and I have tried to grow my own but it wasn't successful.

Thank you

I bought mine online from J. parkers, 20 for £20.00, extremely good plants and grew very quicklY. They were bare roots though, which have to be planted in the winter, if you want to plant them now, you need pot grown ones.

Online as good as anywhere. Lots of places will sell them. Don't buy them too tall, and when you plant them, cut a few inches off the tops, then pinch out as they grow, that way you will get a thick hedge right from the base.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Bought ours from Hedges Direct. 2-3 years later we have a very well established hedge. Suggest you order for planting in autumn otherwise you will have to water very regularly during the Summer. Privet is tough and vigorous so I agree with Lyn that you don't need to buy big plants.

  • Thank you for the replies I will wait and will order later in the year as suggested

Have a look at the Hedge Nursery as well I've ordered 50 for around £35 plus p&p - November delivery and a choice of sizes as well.
