The first one is a Helleborus foetidus.  Very unusual flowers. The other one I'm afraid I don't know although it looks familiar.

Top picture looks like a Helleborus Foetidus, and the second photo could be Helenium.

Could the second one be an Evening Primrose?

Could the second one be a lily?

Agreed, looks like it could be a lily.

  • No I wouldnt have thought a lily...too much like a shrubby perennial like maybe purple loosestrife or something ?

I don't think it's a lily - that was my first thought but compared to a lily I have & the leaves do not have a smooth edge & are less smooth.

Saw a plant called a Solidago that it seems very similar to, but may have to wait for flowers. (Moved into a house with a well stocked garden so trying to educate myself by wandering around garden centres with pictures of unknown plants!)

Hellebore is spot on, thank you.

I keep noticing this round the garden now!

Its in at least 5 spots & a shady spot its reached 5.5ft if that helps ID?

Which plant are you noticing in 5 separate areas? Is it that mystery second photo? I'm now wondering whether it's Coreopsis Tripteris.
