delphinium height

david901david901 Posts: 4

hi,

I have a delphinium that measures 10ft 5ins so far (not in full bloom yet). I was wondering if anyone knows of any taller. world record tallest bloom is a 'titan arum' registered in usa at a height of 10ft 2ins.

thinking I might have a record breaker here!! does anyone know differently?

any information gratefully received.

Hope it hasn't been damaged by the horrible wind and rain we have been having David.

Do you live in the UK David?

yes, im in Dumfries. with the weather we have been getting I think it may be on borrowed time. probably the fact it is not in bloom yet has saved it catching the winds and snapping.

Would be great to see you beat a record; Delphiniums are such stunningly beautiful plants that don't seem to do well in a lot of gardens but in yours, they are beasts of monumental proportions. Good job, sir!!!

May be worth staking them up with some canes strapped together to reach that height as too many 4ft+ speciems around here have fallen over once the petals opened up and were hit with strong winds and/or heavy rain image

hI don't feed them craighb. I moved them into that position 2 years ago to give them a bit more shelter, but that site is shaded most of the day. they don't get their heads in the sun properly until they reach about 5 feet. perhaps iv accidentally forced them!?
