We have cold wet soil and too much wind and rain here, so winter's a no no for that type of plant. They'll take a bit of frost, but long term it's not good. I wouldn't risk leaving them out.
I usually grow them in pots, and I could plant out in summer, but then I'd have to lift them all to overwinter. Too much faffing! Even if they don't flower, they make great foliage plants for contrast, and in a pot, it's easier to move them around when the mood takes you. The leaves get bigger as the pklant gets bigger, so you'll probably see a few changes as the season goes on.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Oh your plants from seed are super!! I must give it a go next January myself.
Fairygirl I don't plant mine in the ground, I keep them in pots, as it rains a lot here, and move them close to a wall for the winter. But, our winters are generally a lot milder than yours.
