Strawberry runners
in Fruit & veg
I notice my strawberry plants are producing runners. They are new plants bought from Aldi this spring. Have had loads of flowers and some fruit starting to appear.
Should I cut the runners and let the plant put its energy into itself, roots and fruiting?
I would like some runners at some point for new plants. So, if I cut these first runners, will there be more runners late summer?

My experience is that I get a second lot of runners form straight away. After being removed 2 perhaps 3 times they stop producing runners and produce more fruit and an odd runner but not very many.
If I was wanting new plants straight away perhaps remove all but one runner on each plant. Every three years I keep as many runners as I need to produce the plants I want for the following season and remove the rest.
At the end of that season I dig up and destroy my old plants and plant out my new ones.
Unless I need to replace plants, I remove all runners so the plant puts energy into the fruit.
