My cactus (Mammilaria elongata) turning red??

I have recently noticed my Mammilaria elogata (ladysfingers) turned red at the base. It might be coincidental but this may be because of too much water? I recently watered it well after a long period of not watering,

I love my cactus and would be gutted if this is a sign of rot or  unrecoverable. Please let me know what this could be?

Would be grateful for your advise!

that looks like something has been nibbling at it rather than rotting,

rotting tends to look like the flesh is collapsing in on itself, that looks like its missing

  • The cut section is where pulled it off.

I saw it red at the base so I pulled it and it just came off. And realised it was all red inside.

  • Thought, could it be red mite car used it? Oh dear, I'm dreading it because I have other cacti! Please help!
