Emphasis on the 1st syllable then a short "atis". More than one clems is a "joy" of clems. Love them, especially the group 3s which are easiest to prune and generally flower for longer than the others and at a time of year when you don't need to rug up to go and appreciate them..

I must confess I am driving those who know me slightly insane with my new and growing (intended pun) enthusiasm for all things garden! There are lots of around me.
I am sadly still at the (immature) stage of congratulating myself when I recognise a plant somewhere. I'm sure the novelty will wear off eventually

A dear old popular colleague ( now retired) once said a very rude word instead of clematis.
"... While you're outside watering your cl*t*r*s" she exclaimed loudly.
The whole office erupted in laughter.
