Good evening all,

I bought this plant at a car boot sale but no idea what it is. The owner said it dies down in the winter and resprouts in the spring. she said the leaves change colour depending in the light they get and there are tiny flowers at the top of each stem, hidden away in the leaves that the bees love.

Any idea what it is? Thanks in advance.

Wonder if it is a tradescantia of some sort?

Yes, it looks like Tradescantia Blushing Bride. I think these are the frost hardy ones.

I think that this is a tradescantia.

Its very pretty. Had a green  one years ago but not as attractive as this. Mine was a houseplant.

I would say, it was a good find at a car-boot sale. There are similar varieties like this and they are equally beautiful. They can be grown outdoors in a sheltered shady spot. Make a lovely woodland style ground cover.

Thanks very much everyone for your help :)

  • A friend gave me one of thease many years ago, I love it . I grow it in pots, hanging baskets and straight in the ground.

It roots very easily just cut a piece above a leaf node and put it into water for a few weeks and it will grow roots ready for potting up.
