Asparagus failure
in Fruit & veg
Two years ago I prepared and planted an asparagus bed. The first season, a few scrawny spears appeared wilted and vanished. This year, nothing. I'm going to dig the plot deeper, add more compost and try again. And I'll water it more. Is there anything else I can do to improve it's chances?

I think you may have hit the nail on the head ........... it's been a very dry winter and spring.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'd locate your asparagus bed somewhere new in case of disease in the soil. Two years is a long time to wait to see if they're going to give a good crop.
Ours were planted last year, so we can have a limited harvest next year (my Mum can't understand that I haven't tried just one of them this year).
I tried some - I think it drowned. It needs very good drainage as well as consistent watering. I think it's quite tough once it's established (so I've read) but getting it established can be quite tricky if your soil and situation isn't perfect
