Trollius (Globe Flower) 'Cheddar'
Had a couple of Trollius last year planted in the moistest part of the garden. They were Spring bloomers (forgotten the name - never had a label). They didn't make it through the winter - rotted away, lots of wet etc.
Purchase another 2 called 'Cheddar' - and bought them because the label said 'Summer'. They are temporarily planted in the 'rubbish' corner beside a tree (I know - bad place, but roots go the other side and other plants do well there).
Looking for advice on a couple of things:
1. Does 'Cheddar' really bloom through the Summer - all I've read on the net says Spring 'into' early Summer. I cut the other stalks of partially done flowers on both plants thinking if the label says 'Summer' then I will get new growth - but having looked at the net info about Spring only blooming, I'm thinking I'm on a loss here for more flowers this year.
2. Has anyone had success with Trollius in non-boggy or truly moist soil? I'm contemplating leaving them both by this tree because the canopy is very very high up and plants underneath get the sun for most of the day. The soil is good as the trunk of the tree goes off in the other direction so it's deep enough. I'm happy enough to water both plants a lot if the soil dries out - rather than experiment again in the moist dampish area which rotted them away last year.
In some respects, I keep finding that planting where the 'books' or standard advice suggest doesn't always match my garden conditions - and often I've planted plants in areas which are 'not recommended' and they have lasted years and done well. Would really appreciate if anyone here who has Trollius can point me in the right direction here. Many thanks folks.

Hi yarrow2
I have golden queen planted around 3 years ago flowering now , I take the dead flowers off and cut back slightly and always get a second show later . It is near the pond and moist being in the north east gets plenty rain but thrives ,Just bought recently a Lemon Queen one in bud now will do the same see if I get a second flush too
Thanks Zenjeff. I will adopt a patient attitude (!) and wait and see. Many thanks.
I grow Cheddar and up here in Edinburgh it is just going over, where as Golden Queen is just coming into flower. It grows in a sunny spot here in my garden but not in a boggy area. Being in Scotland it usually gets plenty of moisture, especially in spring when it really needs it but this year being the driest I can remember it has coped well enough unlike the Ligularia which usually copes without additional water from me but not this year.
I've never tried cutting it back to see if there is a second flush of flowers as Zenjeff has suggested. I might give it a go myself.
Hi
i have a trollius dancing flame, it came as part of a perennial lucky dip, with no info, so I planted it where I had space... it's not somewhere I'd consider ideal judging by the info I've since read but it's doing so well, established well and beautiful flowers.. I'm hoping it blooms again now I've cut it back.
