I thought I was given a belladonna plant, but now that it's flowering it's clearly not.
any idea what species this is?

Could be Solanum nigrum (Black Nightshade).
Looks to soft and hairy for nigrum to me
In the sticks near Peterborough
Looks like Solanum sarrachoides...hairy nightshade.
