leaves look like a Persicaria of some sort.

How can you lie there and think of England

  • I have just googled Persicaria punkdoc, but I am not convinced that is it.  There are many different varieties but none seemed to be quite the same as the ones we saw.  The flowers were round, white and turning to pale pink. The plants were dense and the leaves have a special V shape darker marking on them.  The were quite exquisite flowers. Thanks for your suggestion.

  • I agree with punkdoc, it is definitely Persicaria, those leaf markings are found on several forms of it.

Definitely Polygonum capitatum (formerly Persicaria capitata). I have one which grew in a crevice very high on a wall, and it pours seeds all over the garden.image

BUt, in th right place, it's great ground cover against weeds and the foliage is interesting though I prefer the leaf markings on Red Dragon and Virginiana forms.

different scale to Red Dragon though, tiny by comparison. I lost it, I think it has higher moisture needs than Red Dragon

  • Thank you all - I have found this lovely, small flowered plant under the name Polygonum Capitatum Pink Buttons so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I will try to find it at our GC - is it rare or freely available?

I imagine if you ask the church for a small root they would willingly give you a bit.

Offer a small donation if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Then you know you have the plant you want!

  • Now there's an idea, Silver surfer.  I will do just that next time we are in town.

I lost mine too Nut.  Too cold.   Red Dragon didn't like my Belgian garden either but the one I planted here a few weeks ago is very happy - so far.
