Anyone know what this is? It's growing in an alley near my house. Looks a bit like cuckoo pint but very different leaves and obviously a beautiful deep purple colour! Very pointy central spike. Never seen anything like it growing wild near us. Very intriguing
(cant figure out how to upload photo the right way up!)

Looks like Dranunculus vulgaris
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Was it those that featured on GW the other week saying they were becoming a problem In marshland?

Wasn't that the yellow flowered Skunk Cabbage?

Oh yes that's right! I thought it had a similar look but a yellow flower. The Dranunculus looks nice. I might have to get a couple myself. ?
Thanks very much everyone! My curiosity has been satisfied ?
The dracunclus looks very nice but the smell is unbelievably bad. Rotting meat, to attract the flies to pollinate it. I wouldn't have it in a small garden where you can't be at least 10 ft away from it
In the sticks near Peterborough
Maybe I'll pass then lol. I spent 20 minutes yesterday trying to track down a stinkhorn fungus - very unpleasant!
