When to sow Kale for winter harvest

in Fruit & veg
I'm growing several veg for the 1st time this year. I've already got a few kale plants, but when should I sow to harvest kale (nero di Toscana) over winter?
Thanks

Up to the end of May really - so it's almost too late. Get some started PDQ. If you have a polytunnel you could try sowing some in August/September but not outside unless the weather is exceptionally kind where you live.
Cavolo nero will stand over winter but doesn't put on much growth beyond about Christmas unless it's unusually mild. I got a few pickings of small leaves last winter from established plants outside by protecting them with fleece for the few really cold nights we had here. The russian kale types do better through the coldest months and don't seem to bolt until March or April.

Done!
Thanks rg.
On the packet it says can be sown until Sept, but I can't imagine I'd get much sowing so late.
Thanks for your advice
