Tomato Plant

seyfadesseyfades Posts: 146

I noticed the growing tip of my tomato plants curling and looking dry. I have done as much research into curly disease but I'm not sure if this is the same and if there is anything I can do to rectify the provlem. All my 6 plants are doing this.

please I will appreciate any advise.

It's often a reaction to high temperatures and prevents too much transpiration from the leaves. Can you shade them on bright sunny days?

Nothing to worry about, some do that.  I' m growing three different  types and one of those types are curling but once they grow a bit more, those will straighten out and the new top growth will curl.

Thank you so much Lyn and Dovefromabove, I'm so relieved. I though this is the curly disease. I'm new to growing vegetables and I though tomatoes need direct sunlight. I will transfer them to a shady area.

Tomatoes do need direct sunlight - I wouldn't move them into the shade.  The curly leaf is just the way they sometimes grow - its not a problem, and as Lyn says, the older the leaves are, the more they grow out of it.

Yes, don't move them into the shade ... it's just that if they're in a greenhouse or conservatory sometimes the temperatures can get very high and the greenhouse can need shading.

If they're outside they should be fine.

Sorry I got confused but I understand it now. I am growing them outside, my garden is south facing do it gets a lot of sunshine. I will keep and eye and see how it goes.
