Thrifty slug killing
There's no need to waste real beer in slug traps. Just dissolve some sugar in warm water in a large screw-top jar, and add a teaspoon of baking yeast. Screw the top on half-way so it's loose and the carbon dioxide can escape. Leave it in a warmish place for a few days and it's ready to use. The little slimeballs will drown themselves in it just as happily as in Theakston's finest. I can't bear directly killing anything; this way, I can call it assisted suicide.

If you put it out at night & get it in early morning then perfect, but many other beneficial insects like bees will be attracted to the sugar otherwise.

I just stand on them. Instant, rather than a slow death. The birds can pick over the remains.
