Purple Flowering Plum Tree roots

Hi

I'm being a worry wort about the effects of the above on the sewage treatment plant that is buried just three feet away from the tree trunk. My OH says the roots will 'bounce' off the tank if/when they make contact and grow in another direction. I'm not so sure...as much as I like the tree I'd rather move it now before it causes us problems so does anyone have any advice?

  • I'm surprised no one has any advice or knowledge about tree roots. I'm not looking for cast-iron guarantees, just some guidance please. Will plum tree roots hit a brick wall and change direction or will they do eventual damage?

If there is any weakness in the brickwork then prunus roots will find their way in. Prunus trees are prone to suckering and their roots go a long way from the mother tree. Being only 3 feet away they will hit the brickwork very quickly. I would move it.

  • Thank you Steephill, much appreciated.
