Hi there, can anyone tell me what these plants are an if they are weeds?

They haven't flowered yet and I would like to know so I can hook them out if they are weeds.

Thank you

Although the plants in the first two photo's do look like thistles, it's worth waiting until they flower as they could well be echinops - mine look exactly like that right now.  If the flowers are yellow, then hoik them out.

The second photo looks like ragwort but can you take another photo of the whole plant so we can see the growth habit?

I think the first are echinops.

I think they are  Echinops,  and the bottom ragwort.

  • Thank you! The others were ragwort - i've got rid. I did plant some Echinops a couple of years ago, but they didn't do anything last year. Fingers crossed and thanks again.

Once you've got them you'll never be without them, I dug quite a few of mine up last year, just left a few for the bees but there are loads of little ones around this year from self seeding. They're a good backdrop, mine were about six feet tall, but you do have to put canes and string around them.
