Apple tree disease?

Hi

I planted a semi vigorous Lord Lambourne apple tree in late March this year.  It blossomed very happily and lots of fruit set.  I was advised to removed all of the fruit so that the tree can concentrate on growing strong roots and shoots in its first year.  I didn't quite have the heart to do this, and left two fruits on the tree - one for my wife and one for me - hopefully to try in September.

Anyway, I have noticed that some leaves are starting to look

unhealthy.  I know it's been a very dry spring in East Anglia and perhaps I haven't watered it enough (have been giving it a good drink ~5 L once per week).  Could it just be underwatering or is this something more serious?

Could be a nutrient deficiency, either lack of iron or magnesium (the most likely.)  Give the tree a spray with diluted epsom salts which will fix a magnesium deficiency and feed the ground using a general fertilizer which contains trace elements (it will say that on the packet) to correct for iron or other mineral deficiencies in your soil.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
