Thanks Dove. We only saw one for the first time 2 days ago. Can't believe another one has appeared. It is currently still sitting on a pair of pants, and not a rose!

Possibly yes!
My experience of them is as a serious pest on my flowering cherry. (Though that is in the Rose family) Every spring the leaves were turned to lace and the flower buds chewed off and these pretty shiny beetles were always lurking somewhere in the ruins.
The bird feeders worked though and the tree is untouched by them nowadays!
