Help! What is this plant?

I've just moved into a new house and am very new to gardening. There is this big plant outside my window on which today there were lovely pink flowers. What is this plant and how do I care of it? Do I need to prune it at any point? It's getting rather large.

Prune heavily, 4 - 6 inches from ground, in early Spring.
