Is my new seeded lawn ready to mow?

Good morning everyone

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago re my new lawn and had some very helpful replies!

I sowed it on the 28th April and here it is now! Is at least 4 inches in length so has done very well as it only germinated on the 10th May.

Should I now be mowing it? Everything I've read seems to suggest it's too soon going on time alone but in conscious it's getting unruly! One website said 8 weeks minimum!  Not sure if I will need to re-tread the ground first. image

My mower has a 60mm setting as it's longest cut so would use that.

Many thanks as always for any help :)

Admit it Tom, you're itching to get going with the mower ?

I would give it a trim with the mower on its highest setting, not sure how you will mow up to the fence though, you may need to strim there. You lawn looks lovely and lush, congratulations.

I'd mow it on the highest setting now and then give it another tread down afterwards, next time you cut it you can move the mower down one notch and repeat until at the lowest setting

Thank you guys! Sorry for my late return to the thread it's been one of those days!!

Super that sounds promising then! I watered it this morning so will wait until after work tomorrow to give it a mow and a tread down. .

In tempted to only mow to 40mm (my mowers middle setting) as I had heard a slightly longer length can be beneficial in the fight against dog wee!

So it's mowed!! Despite the sunny day today in Eastbourne it was still damp at half 5 but I didn't realise until I had started whoops!

Anyway, as I expected it wasn't the best cut. It was very long so the section in the picture produced  four lawnmower boxes worth of cuttings. It did make me realise my levelling left a lot to be desired sadly. It felt rather bumpy and where the new area met the old there is a step you can feel with the mower. I'll have to try and grade this in the autumn by too dressing I expect.

It'll never be a show lawn with the dogs and is a lot better than the concrete it replaced anyway!

I like the fence colour. Lawns to me  are  just green things.
