Lily question

Hi all,

Recently purchased lots of plants for my new border. Picked up two Lilys, an Asiatic Majestic Joy & an Oriental Lily Maru. Both gorgeous colours.

My question is can they tolerate direct sunshine or not? The instructions seem to contradict themselves; they say plant in sun or semi-shaded position but in a different place on the same information card say bright light but away from direct sunlight!!

How can planting in sun be away from sunlight?

The bed gets sun most of the afternoon, shade morning and evening.

I have my lilys in full sun and they do well there .

I can go ahead with my plan now.

Most lilies perform well in full sun or part shade but ensure you add grit when planting as they require well drained soil

Oops! Planted them this morning before I'd read this! Why can't the care labels suggest it for novices like me image

I'll enjoy them while they last but thanks, I'll make a note of that for next time.

Mine don't get lots of sun - even when it's sunny! A decent medium for them to grow in is all that's required. As long as they're not in a soggy site they'll grow well enough. Once the foliage is full, they shed a lot of rainwater anyway, assuming you have several bulbs in one place of course.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
