Hedge type advice for house devide

Hi,

My wife and I moved into a house 2 years ago and am in the process of refurbishment. We have now moved from the inside of our house to the outside and we have very little knowledge on greenery.

We live in a semi detached house which currently has a wall aprox 2ft high seperating the properties at the front. We would like to brighten up the front of our house and see this boundary wall a good place to start, though we just don't know what to plant there.

The requirements we would like are:

1: It can't grow too tall or wide, but I am happy to trim it if it can be trimmed without dying.

2: It can't be prickly

3: It needs to be fairly dense foliage so that it blocks out the next doors driveway....We like our neighbours but their drive is a little scruff

4: It needs to be hardy

We'd really love some ideas if anyone has any,or if we could be pointed in the right direction. It doesn't even have to be a hedge, we're open to any ideas.
